Luis Segundo Corrreas 'Las Acequias' Bonarda, Mendoza Argentina
Readers rated this wine:
Fragrant, excellent, supple.

While Malbec is undoubtedly king in Mendoza, a lesser known but important variety called Bonarda was historically the work-horse. This red grape of Italian origins, was mainly used in bulk table wine and now is mainly used as a blender to add fruitiness to the finished wine. But, Bonarda, especially ones from 90+ year-old vines like this one is, can be excellent on its own.
Cherry twizzlers and raspberry, vanilla, candied violets and baking spice aromas lead to a supple palate with impressive freshness. It's a smooth wine that is medium-full bodied and flavoured with tealeaf, spice, wild berries and leather; mocha flavours trail on the finish.
